Fine and Performing Arts
St. Ursula Academy offers an unmatched experience for girls interested in fine and performing arts. With faculty members who are not only educated in their fields, but have also practiced their own crafts professionally, our students learn from the best and are able to grow in their personal creative experiences.
SUA students who enjoy the visual arts have many options to explore their talents—and learn new skills. With electives such as photography, ceramics, painting, drawing, sculpture, and digital arts—and AP courses such as Art History and Studio Art: Drawing—girls can expand their knowledge and interest in this area of study.
With a wide array of dance and theater courses, as well as vocal music classes, our students can tap into their creativity as they explore storytelling through song, dance, and other forms of artistic expression.
For more advanced vocalists, the SUA Honors Choir, Bella Voce, and Concert Choir offer more challenging experiences. A select choir also performs at Carnegie Hall in New York City every other year.
The SUA musical is one of the most anticipated events of the school year. More than 80 girls are typically involved in the production—from on-stage actors to back-stage tech assistants. The SUA musicals are performed at the majestic Valentine Theatre in downtown Toledo, a 900-seat auditorium steeped in pride and history—and with room for outstanding sets and large dance numbers. Boys from area high schools participate in the SUA musical, and typically eight to ten high schools are represented!
Off-campus Music Opportunities
Musicians who are interested in a fun and co-ed band experience can join the St. John’s Jesuit or the St. Francis de Sales marching band to perform at football game halftime shows and other competitions.
