SUA Varsity Tennis Head Coach Mary Kay Minder was awarded the OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics, and Integrity Award from The Ohio Tennis Coaches Association on February 25, 2018.
Coach Minder started playing tennis at 11 years old and played in junior tournaments. She played high school tennis on the boys team her freshman year at a private school and then transferred to a parochial school and was undefeated in regular season play. Coach Minder went on to play D1 college tennis at The University of Toledo.
She started teaching tennis at 16 years old and has been teaching at various clubs in the Toledo area for 43 years. Coach Minder is currently a teaching pro at Perrysburg Tennis Center and in her 20th year of coaching girls tennis at her alma mater, St. Ursula Academy. She just celebrated 30 years of marriage and has two daughters.
After 19 years of coaching Coach Minder's record is 258-89. She's won two league championships, voted Coach of the Year in 2008 and 2011, and qualified 69 girls for District play and 12 girls for States. In 2008 SUA competed at the State Team Tournament and came in 4th place. Additionally, Coach Minder has volunteered for The Make-A Wish Foundation for 30 years and has volunteered sporadically at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
