JA Student Life
A strong community is essential to a strong experience. The Junior Academy community creates a sense of belonging. Clubs, sports, musicals—there’s something for everyone here. The sisterhood allows for deep connections, lasting friendships, and built-in support when needed most.
The JA hosts special events and activities that make life at SUA unique and engaging for our youngest Arrows.
Catholic Schools Weeks
This annual celebration of the role Catholic education plays in the lives of young students is an important part of the JA experience. Our students focus on several activities during the special week, including service to their school, community, SUA sisters, and families, as well as educational opportunities to explore and appreciate the world around them.
Clubs
Although the list of clubs often changes based on student interest and participation, the JA girls enjoy membership in groups such as Kindness Club, Drama Club, STEM Team, Multi-Cultural Club, and Jewelry-Making Club. Learn More
Family Events
Throughout the school year, there are opportunities for families to visit campus, including the Grandparents Day Mass, Fall Family Fun event, Mother/Daughter event, and Father/Daughter event. There are also parent coffees, JA liturgies, and special lunches. Learn More
JA Socials
These special events are designed for new students to meet each other and learn more about SUA before the school year starts. The events change each year but include a variety of activities to encourage students to meet and have fun.
Athletics
JA students may compete in sports through the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), Club, or Prep Teams. Our JA participates in basketball, cheer, cross-country, lacrosse, track & field, and volleyball. The JA also has independent crew, golf, and indoor track teams. Learn More
Service Opportunities
JA students participate in service projects that help their school and community. They work on service projects in group settings and have an active voice in selecting who will benefit from their assistance. Learn More
Class Trips
Learning doesn’t stop outside the classroom walls. Sixth and eighth grade students go on class trips to learn more about themselves, their classmates, and the world around them.
6th Grade
Camp Storer Trip
Each September, sixth grade Arrows spend three days at Camp Storer in Michigan. This off-campus, overnight trip allows the students to get to know each other.
Students leave their textbooks and cellphones behind and spend time outdoors. Through fun activities like kayaking, horseback riding, and hiking, they learn about themselves and build sisterhood bonds.
High school juniors also attend as cabin leaders. They gain real-life leadership skills and get to know the younger students.
8th Grade
Washington, D.C. Trip
Each fall, eighth graders take a trip to Washington, D.C. During the four-day trip, they visit monuments, memorials, and museums; explore the three branches of government; and witness U.S. history come to life. The trip fosters independence, growth, and sisterhood.
