A Letter from a Loyal Alumna

Back in the day, St. Ursula Academy reunions were held in the gymnasium after Sunday Mass. (I LOVE reunions!) Tables were set up for each milestone year: 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50. When I was younger, I used to look at the 40-year and 50-year tables and think, “They are SO old!” Ha! Now that I just attended our class of ’74’s 50th (gulp!) reunion, I am stunned to be 68 years old! The tradition of designated class tables in the gym is no longer. And that’s a good thing because I’d be sitting at our table and looking at the 10-year and 20-year tables lamenting, “They are SO young!”
Our 50th reunion in June 2024 was a blast! We laughed and reminisced and were genuinely happy to see our classmates and reconnect. Those two nights of fun took us back to the good ol’ days. Personally, it made me glad that my husband and I recently included SUA in our trust the year before when we updated our will after our children married. The reason being, my years at SUA made me the woman I am today.
If this part of our alma mater rings true: “Friendships formed and cherished as years go by…scenes of happy days…” then I encourage you to consider REMEMBERING St. Ursula Academy in your will or trust. Just think if every alumna gifted even $100 how much that would add up! Including SUA in your estate plans is an effective way to be grateful for what we treasured most from our years at school be it our friendships, our education, or our spiritual growth. All combined, they made us who we are. SUA was a place where I felt valued, accepted, and confident to be my authentic self. The excellent education I received prepared me to become an educator and an author.
Including St. Ursula Academy as a beneficiary in your will or revocable trust makes you a part of The 1854 Society. Yay! Another club to join! (FYI, SUA was founded in 1854.) Most importantly, our donations will make a meaningful difference in the life of a girl who is trying to find her way in life—just like us many years before her. Gifts of ANY size are welcome and appreciated and donations can be confidential. You can direct your gift to a specific department, program, staff development, scholarship, the Junior Academy, etc. or state that your gift can be used for the greatest current need. You can specify a dollar amount or a percentage of what remains after you’ve provided for your heirs. Including SUA in your will or trust can offer potential tax benefits, making your generosity even more impactful.
Our donations ensure St. Ursula Academy will flourish for generations to come. The school tour I took at our 50th reunion last June was impressive. (How I wished it were that cool when I attended back in the 70s!) They now have three art studios, on-campus soccer/lacrosse and softball fields, a state-of-the-art black box theater, a weight room, athletic courts, open-campus dining commons, five science labs, a dance/yoga studio, and a remodeled chapel. (The same handrail in the middle of the stairs to the second floor remains! Though I did not slide down it this time…) If you missed the tour, go visit! Or at least check out SUA’s awesome website: https://www.toledosua.org/
