Do You Remember Lois Martinez?

Lois Martinez
Theology Teacher, Grades 6-11

How long have you been a part of the SUA community?
15 years.

What is your position at/affiliation to SUA?
JA/HS Theology teacher: 15 years
JA Health teacher: 2 years

What are you most proud of being affiliated with SUA?
I am most proud of the fact that I have had the privilege of being able to learn from, to grow with, and to teach so many talented ladies at SUA.

What SUA core value is most important to you and why?
"Ursuline Spirituality" and "Care of the Individual" go hand-in-hand and are equally important, and to me one cannot be separated from the other. In following the Gospel, we are called to love God above all and to love others by treating everyone with dignity, grace, and respect, regardless of ethnicity, race, class, or gender.

We would like the alumnae to see that positive relationships between students and teachers still exist.

Lindsey Gilbert ‘12 has this to say about Mrs. Martinez:
“During my four-year education, I was blessed to have Mrs. Martinez as my theology teacher, but she was more than that. She was a mentor and a friend. Her face would light up every day upon seeing her students walking into her classroom. The love of her job would just exude from her daily. The love and support she gave to us girls still carries on today, years after graduation. I’m always so humbled to see her comment on my life milestones and encourage me to keep up the good work, which fuels me to keep going. Mrs. Martinez is just a treasure of a person through and through, and I’m so thankful to know her.”

Mrs. Martinez says:
“Thank God for social media. It has helped me to pray for and to watch my former students become adults. I am a very proud teacher-mama.”
