Growth Mindset

SUA students have endless possibilities for the future.

At St. Ursula Academy, students feel comfortable enough to try and fail, brave enough to explore and dream, and supported every step of the way as they grow into who they are meant to be.

Part of that confidence comes from the growth mindset woven into every classroom experience. Students learn that through hard work, thoughtful strategies, and learning from others, they can strengthen their understanding and continue to grow. They focus less on “looking smart” and more on the process of learning itself. As a result, students build resilience, persevere through challenges, and reflect more deeply on their learning.

By helping our students change the way they think about learning, we can also help the way they approach challenges in school and in life. Reflecting on mistakes and analyzing assignments helps students strengthen understanding, make new connections, and build confidence.

Our faculty members reinforce the growth mindset by asking students meaningful questions:
“What did you learn today?”
“What mistakes ended up teaching you something?”
“What did you really try hard at today?”

This realistic and encouraging approach to learning is the foundation for a lifetime of discovery.

The growth mindset goes beyond the classroom as well. Students try new sports, join clubs, take on leadership roles, and step out of their comfort zones. Whether they sit with someone new at lunch or tackle a tough challenge, students know that growth comes from courage, persistence, and the willingness to try.
