St. Ursula Academy honored four impactful community members at its annual fundraiser on November 4. Each year at Serata di Gala: A Night for Scholarships, SUA recognizes individuals who go above and beyond in their professional and philanthropic lives...

Miss Amy Muszynski, SUA's social studies department chair and a teacher in the JA and high school, won the Chick-fil-A Teacher of the Year award for her dedication to students and her famous love for the company’s products.

Senior Kathryn Amend earned National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship Semifinalist accolades, which includes an award of $3,200 towards higher education. The NHS grants $2 million in scholarships each year to approximately 600 students nationwide.

St. Ursula Academy hosted its annual Serata di Gala fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022. This event, now in its tenth year, raised more than $170,000 and nearly $1.2 million in ten years, with all funds going directly to scholarships.

St. Ursula Academy rising junior Catherine Stella Soeder was chosen by Ohio governor Mike DeWine as one of 16 teens from across the state to participate in the inaugural Ohio Student Safety Advisory Council, a part of the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC).

Each year, St. Ursula Academy presents three special awards to students in its graduating class. These awards speak to the essence of a St. Ursula student—caring, selfless, engaged, and supportive of her sisters and her community.

St. Ursula Academy celebrated its juniors and seniors at Honors Night on Tuesday, May 10. Sophomores and freshmen were recognized on Wednesday, May 11, following our May Crowning prayer service. The SUA faculty, staff, and administration are so proud of the hard work and dedication shown by our Arrows!

St. Ursula Academy president Mary Conlisk Werner ’74 earned the 2022 YWCA Milestones: A Tribute to Women award in the Education category. She was nominated by many and varied colleagues from her business, education, and personal life; in each nomination, she was praised for her commitment to enhancing the lives of young women by enriching their opportunities for leadership skills, rigorous academics, and sisterhood.

St. Ursula Academy, along with Central Catholic High School, Notre Dame Academy, St. Francis de Sales School, and St. John’s Jesuit High School, joined the Detroit-based Catholic High School League (CHSL), beginning with the fall sports season of the 2023-24 school year. These Toledo schools will be eligible to compete in CHSL championships in all 30 sports overseen by the league. 

Two dedicated St. Ursula Academy alumnae recently earned the prestigious YWCA Milestone Award 2022: A Tribute to Women, presented yearly to women who stand out in business, education, creative, and service fields. Mary Conlisk Werner ’74 and Marsha Manahan ’73 were nominated by their colleagues and peers for extraordinary work.

St. Ursula Academy recently named Amy Muszynski ’04 as its new Varsity Softball head coach. Muszynski was a member of the 2004 State Champion Arrows softball team. She is a Social Studies teacher and a founding contributor to the Junior Academy, SUA’s middle school for girls in grades 6-8.

Happy Easter! As we celebrate our Lord’s resurrection from the dead, we are reminded that this mystery is one of hope and new life. The Easter season announces that ultimately evil has been overcome by good.

St. Ursula Academy is proud to announce that its Dance Team placed first in the large jazz and large pom categories at the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) “virtual” state tournament on March 13. 

During the season of Lent we often consider ways to change our heart more toward Jesus and his journey to the cross. We know that the crucifixion must occur for Jesus to fulfill the scriptures by rising from the dead on the third day— Resurrection and Salvation...

On our feast day, we are excited to announce our 2020-2021 Ursuline Education Network Service Award recipient, senior Jakya Warren. Jakya has served more than 1,000 hours at Kidz First Summer Camp as a camp leader. She has given of her time and talent, emulating the spirit of St. Angela.

As we begin a new year our traditions remind us that New Year’s Resolutions are often made. I would like to think that resolutions are only reminders of how we want to better ourselves or challenge ourselves to something new...

The fall high school athletics season includes five sports for girls, and St. Ursula Academy athletes and coaches captured the highest honors—four Players of the Year awards and two Coach of the Year awards—in four of those sports in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC).

St. Ursula Academy senior Lily Schwartz is one of three young members of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Conservation Teen Advisory Council (ConTAC) who shared their passion for preserving and protecting Ohio’s waters with the Great Lakes Commission at its annual meeting on Nov. 19, 2020. 

Erin Baker, Coordinator of Organizational Learning, Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, received a 2020 "20 Under 40" Leadership Recognition Award on Wednesday, October 28.

Sr. Kathleen Padden, OSU, (also known as Sr. Gabriel) passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at the Ursuline Center (age 91).

The Toledo Labre Program, a joint effort between St. Ursula Academy and St. John’s Jesuit High School and Academy to feed poor and homeless people in Toledo, has now completed eight years of service. Monday, Oct. 5, was the beginning of the program's ninth year.

As we move into the season of autumn, we experience even more change. Adjusting to school life amid COVID-19 with all the safety precautions, guidelines and educational challenges, we may be at a point where we need to be reminded that God is with us.

The St. Ursula Academy Fine and Performing Arts Department is thrilled to announce its 2021 musical: Jerry's Girls. This revue is based on the works of famed composer and lyricist Jerry Herman, who is known for his work on Hello Dolly!, Mame, Mack and Mabel, and La Cage Aux Folles, among others.

St. Ursula Academy social studies teacher Brandi Sharlow loves to share information about the past with her students, but she recently took her love of history to another level—one that not only underlines the importance of SUA’s sponsors, the Ursuline Sisters, but also ensures their longevity.

The St. Ursula Academy Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Club is in the second level of competition for the NASA WEAR contest, which challenges teams to design wearable radiation countermeasures for deep space exploration. 

The 121 students in SUA’s Class of 2020 each had her own personal graduation ceremony at school, beginning with a solo walk through the senior hallway and ending with a family photo of the graduate with her diploma.

Our world today is in such great need of peace and harmony.  One wonders with wars, upheavals, poverty, hunger, climate change, immigration and especially the coronavirus, what can I do as just one person.

St. Ursula Academy is proud to announce that Amy Muszynski, a Junior Academy social studies teacher, earned the prestigious Golden Apple Award from the Diocese of Toledo for excellence in teaching.

Another interpretation of St. Angela’s quote “We always have reason to stand in awe” is “We always have reason to stand in fear.”

When Mark Dubielak makes a commitment, he sticks to it.

Dubielak, a long-time theology teacher at St. Ursula Academy, is SUA’s director of Labre, a program to feed the underserved in inner-city Toledo every Monday through a joint venture with St. John’s Jesuit High School and Academy. Named after Jesuit saint Benedict Joseph Labre, the program is now in its eighth year and has only missed two Mondays, both because of Level 3 snowstorms. Rain or shine, summer or winter, holiday or regular old weekday, the Labre team—students from SUA and SJJ, along with faculty, staff, and parents from both schools—makes and distributes food to nearly a hundred people each week.

But then this pandemic threw the team for a loop...

SUA is proud to announce that its Dance Team earned two prestigious rankings, including a National Championship, at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) national tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports facility in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, Feb. 2: first in the nation in Small Varsity Pom and fifth in the nation in Small Varsity Jazz.

St. Ursula Academy students continue to live their faith by reaching out to community members in need, this time by supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in its fundraising efforts.

Juniors Kathleen Hurley and Lucy Turner—working as a team—and senior Kennedy Coleman are members of the LLS “Student of the Year” Challenge, which involves raising funds through a variety of events.

St. Ursula Academy continues its tradition of presenting outstanding musical theater productions with Jesus Christ Superstar, the beloved Broadway musical. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, the show will be presented at Toledo’s historic Valentine Theatre Jan. 23-26, 2020.

St. Ursula Academy is proud to announce that five members of its STEM Club recently won the Lexus Eco Challenge, a national contest for students in grades 6-12 that gets them involved in an environmental issue that affects their community.

Four local high schools came together Sunday night for the 4th annual Breast Cancer Bowl.

St. Ursula Academy and Central Catholic High School went head to head in a game of flag football to raise money for the Victory Center.

Ninety-four members of the St. Ursula Academy Class of 2019 graduated at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle Concert Hall on Sunday, May 26, 2019.

SUA celebrated National Letter of Intent Signing Day on November 14. Courtney Coffman '19 will play golf at Davenport University and Morgan Bowers '19 will play softball at Kent State University.

Teamwork earned SUA’s 200-freestyle-relay swim team members a state championship last winter, and teamwork brings the four students—Catherine Kight ’19, Molly Dynda ’21, Corinne Staneart ’21, and Audrey Cesar ’21—together again to present their message at the Be The Force: Empower Yourself summit for young women. 

Katie Karban, Sylvania resident and St. Ursula Academy graduate from the Class of 2018, has been named a National Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar by the College Board for the 2018 AP exam period.

Four young women from Northwest Ohio were all looking to qualify for the Marathon Classic. Three of them: Lily Rinker '18, Lizzie Win '16 and Pinya Pipatjarasgit '18, are all St. Ursula Academy Grads. Two of them will be golfing this weekend at the Marathon Classic.
