SUA Senior Earns Prestigious National Honor Society Scholarship
St. Ursula Academy

Senior Kathryn Amend earned National Honor Society (NHS) Scholarship Semifinalist accolades, which includes an award of $3,200 towards higher education. The NHS grants $2 million in scholarships each year to approximately 600 students nationwide.

Dennis Maas, Katie’s NHS Chapter Advisor and Social Studies teacher, said, “Katie’s thirst for knowledge, desire for academic excellence, and conspicuous joy in learning make her both a delightful presence and a welcomed challenge in the classroom. Her selfless time and effort given to the duties of Vice President of the NHS beyond the required responsibilities of membership speak highly of her outside-the-classroom dedication to the needs of all students and the school.”

At SUA, Katie has participated in many school activities; outside of school, she is president of the Toledo Youth Advisory Board, a volunteer at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and a philharmonic violinist for the Toledo Youth Symphony Orchestra. This fall, she will attend Fordham University to study Spanish, Economics, and Finance.
