Esser Performance Improvement Center Now Open
St. Ursula Academy

St. Ursula Academy’s new Esser Performance Improvement Center (EPICenter) is now open, enhancing the health, strength, and performance of all students in grades 6-12.

The EPICenter is a 2,500-square-foot-facility located on the mezzanine level of the field house. This larger space will better accommodate students and athletes, offering a modernized facility with updated equipment and a variety of training resources. It will also make it safer and more convenient for athletes – teams won’t have to travel for weight training and additional workouts. With SUA’s 13 varsity sports and 7 junior academy sports, the enhancements will allow athletes from all school sports to train more effectively.

The EPICenter includes free weights, Olympic lifting platforms, cardio equipment (such as treadmills and elliptical machines), putting greens, and a plyometric platform.

It also features a glass wall spanning the mezzanine face, new athletic flooring, and a premium sound system. Electrical and HVAC upgrades were also completed.

This new facility is more than just a weight room. It offers comprehensive strength and performance development programs that prepare student athletes’ minds, bodies, and spirits for competition at the highest level.

This EPICenter was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Sandy (Files) Esser ’67, an alumna of the school, as well as a past parent and current grandparent.

“We’re honored to support this new fitness center, which is more than just new equipment – it’s a commitment to the health and well-being of every student,” said Esser. “This space allows students to train, build confidence, and take care of their bodies and minds. Investing in their health is investing in their future, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Sandy Esser for promoting student health and wellness, and believing in the mission of St. Ursula Academy,” said Mary Werner, president of St. Ursula Academy. “Her generosity enables SUA to continue providing an outstanding whole person-centered Ursuline education to every girl who walks through our doors.”

The EPICenter gives priority to in-season teams but is available to all students, faculty and staff. For safety, no students will be given access without adult supervision.
