St. Ursula Academy senior Lily Schwartz is one of three young members of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Conservation Teen Advisory Council (ConTAC) who shared their passion for preserving and protecting Ohio’s waters with the Great Lakes Commission at its annual meeting on Nov. 19, 2020. 

Erin Baker, Coordinator of Organizational Learning, Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, received a 2020 "20 Under 40" Leadership Recognition Award on Wednesday, October 28.

Sr. Kathleen Padden, OSU, (also known as Sr. Gabriel) passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at the Ursuline Center (age 91).

The Toledo Labre Program, a joint effort between St. Ursula Academy and St. John’s Jesuit High School and Academy to feed poor and homeless people in Toledo, has now completed eight years of service. Monday, Oct. 5, was the beginning of the program's ninth year.

As we move into the season of autumn, we experience even more change. Adjusting to school life amid COVID-19 with all the safety precautions, guidelines and educational challenges, we may be at a point where we need to be reminded that God is with us.

The St. Ursula Academy Fine and Performing Arts Department is thrilled to announce its 2021 musical: Jerry's Girls. This revue is based on the works of famed composer and lyricist Jerry Herman, who is known for his work on Hello Dolly!, Mame, Mack and Mabel, and La Cage Aux Folles, among others.

St. Ursula Academy social studies teacher Brandi Sharlow loves to share information about the past with her students, but she recently took her love of history to another level—one that not only underlines the importance of SUA’s sponsors, the Ursuline Sisters, but also ensures their longevity.

The St. Ursula Academy Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Club is in the second level of competition for the NASA WEAR contest, which challenges teams to design wearable radiation countermeasures for deep space exploration. 

The 121 students in SUA’s Class of 2020 each had her own personal graduation ceremony at school, beginning with a solo walk through the senior hallway and ending with a family photo of the graduate with her diploma.

St. Ursula Academy freshman Kathryn Amend earned a Third-Place award in Division II of the Toledo Bar Association’s 2020 Caty Armstrong Memorial Law Day Essay Contest. 

Each year, St. Ursula Academy presents three special awards to students in its graduating class. These awards speak to the essence of a St. Ursula student—caring, selfless, engaged, and supportive of her sisters and her community.

St. Ursula Academy celebrated its seniors with a virtual Honors Night on Thursday, May 7. The SUA faculty, staff, and administration are so proud of the hard work and dedication shown by the Class of 2020.

Our world today is in such great need of peace and harmony.  One wonders with wars, upheavals, poverty, hunger, climate change, immigration and especially the coronavirus, what can I do as just one person.

St. Ursula Academy is proud to announce that Amy Muszynski, a Junior Academy social studies teacher, earned the prestigious Golden Apple Award from the Diocese of Toledo for excellence in teaching.

Another interpretation of St. Angela’s quote “We always have reason to stand in awe” is “We always have reason to stand in fear.”

When Mark Dubielak makes a commitment, he sticks to it.

Dubielak, a long-time theology teacher at St. Ursula Academy, is SUA’s director of Labre, a program to feed the underserved in inner-city Toledo every Monday through a joint venture with St. John’s Jesuit High School and Academy. Named after Jesuit saint Benedict Joseph Labre, the program is now in its eighth year and has only missed two Mondays, both because of Level 3 snowstorms. Rain or shine, summer or winter, holiday or regular old weekday, the Labre team—students from SUA and SJJ, along with faculty, staff, and parents from both schools—makes and distributes food to nearly a hundred people each week.

But then this pandemic threw the team for a loop...

SUA is proud to announce that its Dance Team earned two prestigious rankings, including a National Championship, at the Universal Dance Association (UDA) national tournament at the ESPN Wide World of Sports facility in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday, Feb. 2: first in the nation in Small Varsity Pom and fifth in the nation in Small Varsity Jazz.

St. Ursula Academy students continue to live their faith by reaching out to community members in need, this time by supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in its fundraising efforts.

Juniors Kathleen Hurley and Lucy Turner—working as a team—and senior Kennedy Coleman are members of the LLS “Student of the Year” Challenge, which involves raising funds through a variety of events.

St. Ursula Academy continues its tradition of presenting outstanding musical theater productions with Jesus Christ Superstar, the beloved Broadway musical. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, the show will be presented at Toledo’s historic Valentine Theatre Jan. 23-26, 2020.

St. Ursula Academy is proud to announce that five members of its STEM Club recently won the Lexus Eco Challenge, a national contest for students in grades 6-12 that gets them involved in an environmental issue that affects their community.

Four local high schools came together Sunday night for the 4th annual Breast Cancer Bowl.

St. Ursula Academy and Central Catholic High School went head to head in a game of flag football to raise money for the Victory Center.

Ninety-four members of the St. Ursula Academy Class of 2019 graduated at the Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle Concert Hall on Sunday, May 26, 2019.

St. Ursula Academy (SUA) is proud to announce that its Dance Team placed first in the jazz and pom categories at the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) state tournament in Dublin, Ohio, on March 2. The team also earned second-place honors in the hip-hop category.

SUA celebrated National Letter of Intent Signing Day on November 14. Courtney Coffman '19 will play golf at Davenport University and Morgan Bowers '19 will play softball at Kent State University.

Teamwork earned SUA’s 200-freestyle-relay swim team members a state championship last winter, and teamwork brings the four students—Catherine Kight ’19, Molly Dynda ’21, Corinne Staneart ’21, and Audrey Cesar ’21—together again to present their message at the Be The Force: Empower Yourself summit for young women. 

Katie Karban, Sylvania resident and St. Ursula Academy graduate from the Class of 2018, has been named a National Advanced Placement (AP) Scholar by the College Board for the 2018 AP exam period.

Four young women from Northwest Ohio were all looking to qualify for the Marathon Classic. Three of them: Lily Rinker '18, Lizzie Win '16 and Pinya Pipatjarasgit '18, are all St. Ursula Academy Grads. Two of them will be golfing this weekend at the Marathon Classic.
