Summer Update #3
Hello Arrows! It is hard to believe, but the 2015-16 sports season begins this Friday! I know that most sports have already begun preparations for the new season. I am excited about the prospects for ALL of our fall sports teams. As always, if you ever have questions, feel free to contact the Athletic Department at firstname.lastname@example.org.
SPORTS DIVISIONS FOR 2015/2016
I wanted to take an opportunity to explain the process the state uses to determine divisions for each sport. Every two years, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) determines divisions for each sport based upon enrollment figures provided by each school. Over the last two years a couple of changes made by the state legislature has resulted in a change to the procedure for how enrollment is counted. Home school students, charter school students, and community school students (think vocational schools) can now participate in athletics in their home public school district.
The increased enrollment numbers resulting from the implementation of these laws has impacted the divisional placement of several schools within the OHSAA. Based on the new enrollment figures, St. Ursula's volleyball, soccer, and basketball programs have been placed in Division II for the upcoming school year. Determinations have not been made for the other winter and spring sports as of this time.
St. Ursula's placement in Division II for selected sports is anticipated to be a short term situation. In 2014, the OHSAA member schools voted to add a multiplier to every student who attends a school outside of their local public district in order to provide parity between private and public schools. Implementation was to occur for the 2016/2017 season however, this has been delayed until 2017/2018. Once implemented, the multiplier is anticipated to move St. Ursula Academy back to Division I in all sports.
The only impact you will notice is the different schools that we will have the opportunity to participate against in the OHSAA tournament. This will give our teams the opportunity to see new places and meet new faces, we wouldn't normally compete against. I am excited to get started on our new adventure.

I am pleased to announce that Tandy Bradford is our new Assistant Athletic Director. Tandy comes to us from Toledo Christian where she was the Athletic Director and Head Girls Basketball Coach. Tandy is also our Head Basketball Coach and has made a positive impact in a short time. I expect Tandy to have the same impact in the Athletic Department. Welcome, Tandy!

FALL SPORTS PARENT MEETING
Fall Sports meetings begin this week. This year we have gone to 2 sessions for our Fall Sports Meeting. If you are unable to make one of the sessions, please contact the athletic office to receive information handed out at the meeting.
Soccer, Tennis, and Golf will have their Fall Sports Meetings this Wednesday, July 29th at 7pm.
Volleyball, Crew, Cross Country, and Dance will have their meeting on Monday, August 3rd at 7:30pm.
The OHSAA mandates parent meetings for all member schools for each sports season. These meetings will go over OHSAA regulations, School Policies, and paperwork. The individual sports meetings vary by sport, but usually include practice schedules, sports specific rules, and miscellaneous items specific to that program.
