The Excel Center is a resource for all SUA students to reach their academic best. Students are encouraged to seek assistance in the Excel Center - whether for a little extra study assistance before an test or exam, or if to review a concept learned in class.
If students need academic help, professional academic tutors are on staff to assist them. Tutors work in concert with teachers to meet educational needs. Tutoring is available for short-term or long-term needs. Short-term intervention might include making up missed assignments due to an absence. For ongoing support in a specific subject area, regular appointments are established.
Since block scheduling is designed to maximize class time, little free time is available during the regular school day to meet with tutors. Therefore, students miss short segments of class (generally about 30 minutes) once or twice a week to meet with tutors. Opportunities are available for before and after school tutoring when missing class would contribute to the difficulty in learning.
Counselors are happy to discuss students' needs with their assigned students.
