MAUMEE, Ohio (WUPW) - Doctors fear the death toll will rise in Haiti in the coming weeks, due to disease. But local physicians, nurses, and surgeons are teaming up to help prevent that from happening. On Monday more than 20 medical professionals will leave for Haiti. And they're taking donated bags of medical supplies with them. "This community is the best community to be in when there is a disaster because they really respond," said ISOH/IMPACT President Linda Greene. Thanks to St. Luke's Hospital, Mercy Healthcare System, the Maumee Rotary Club, and St. Ursula Academy, more than $20,000 worth of supplies will be shipped to Haiti in the weeks to come. "Most of these are medical supplies, surgical supplies for emergencies and also antibiotics," said Dr. Antonio Paat. Dr. Paat of SCORE or Special Commission on Relief Education along with ISOH/Impact are working together. When it comes to helping those who are suffering in the wake of disasters these two organizations aren't strangers.
